Life, the Universe, and Everything... - 100 Words #39

            You see them everywhere in Hong Kong, pushing their tiny trolleys, loaded with flattened cardboard boxes or various other bits of detritus thrown out by the shops and stalls. Usually women, sometimes men, always old, always struggling with the load. The streets on the island can be steep, but still they push and push. Just once in a while you'll see them crashed out on the pavement, one woman could be found in the same spot more or less everyday, just yards from the hotel door; asleep or eating a pot noodle, never smiling, expressions ground into their features like the furrows of a ploughed field. In amidst the bank towers and big money they move - don't expect an occupy movement here any time soon...
