Randy Barnette founded Ornery Beer Company and Public House nearly three years ago, in Woodbridge, Virginia —Prince William County's first-ever brewpub. Sadly, he has announced that his GABF-gold-medal-winning brewpub will lose its lease next Monday, 12 March.

For quite some time now, Mr. Barnette has been one of the best good guys in northern Virginia's good beer renaissance —predating Ornery with Mad Fox Brewing and Hard Times Cafe. In fact, his pedigree can be traced back to Washington, D.C.'s famed, erstwhile Zebra Room.

If there's a silver lining, it's that Mr. Barnette is a proven businessman who predicates his business on good beer. He is, in temperament, like the name of his brewery: ornery (and tenacious).

In his parting notice, after thanking his patrons and staff, Mr. Barnette wrote this: "We are working to raise the finds with current and new investors, along with our bank, to relocate to a smaller space. [...] If we are successful, we may become a new, smaller brewpub or a brewery & taproom."

Many, many folk are rooting for him. Ninkasi-speed!
