Minnewater ou lac d'amour, Bruges, Flandre Occidentale, Belgique

            Situé au Sud de la ville et entouré par l’eau (un canal à l’Est, deux au Sud et le lac d’Amour à l’Ouest), il existe une légende qui a donné son nom au lieu.
Il y a de cela fort longtemps, à l’époque ou les conquêtes romaines remontaient jusqu’à la mer du Nord, une jeune et belle demoiselle nommée Minna trouva refuge dans les bois. La raison de sa fuite : un mariage forcé qui ne manquerait pas de la rendre à jamais captive d’un homme ne lui plaisant pas.
L’élu de son coeur, Morin, parti à la guerre finit par la retrouver lorsqu’il rentra sur place mais la santé de sa belle était tel qu’elle mourût d’épuisement et de tristesse dans ses bras.
Pour ne pas succomber de tristesse à son tour, Morin construisit alors une imposante digue afin de dévier un ruisseau. Il enterra sa belle au fond d’un creux de terrain et détruisit le barrage qu’il avait érigé. L’eau remplit toute la zone et forma un lac.
Les livres d’histoire ont retenu une autre version du parc et de son lac. L’endroit, propice aux échanges commerciaux, permettait aux barges venant de Gand de charger/décharger leurs marchandises via le canal Bruges-Gand.
Ceinturé par une imposante tour de défense d’un côté et par la maison de l’éclusier de l’autre, le port intérieur de Bruges était donc un lieu bruyant et très actif dont le nom d’alors « Binnenwater » (bassin intérieur) a par la suite été déformé et approprié par les habitants.
Ce que l’on voit du parc et du lac aujourd’hui est une vue relativement récente. Les lieux étant encore dédiés au travail au début du 20ème siècle. En 1969, diverses constructions bordant le parc ont été détruites et les lieux ont été repensé comme parc public.

Located south of the city and surrounded by water (one canal to the east, two to the south and the Lake of Love to the west), there is a legend that gave its name to the place.
Long ago, when the Roman conquests reached all the way to the North Sea, a beautiful young lady named Minna found refuge in the woods. The reason for her escape: a forced marriage that would not fail to make her forever captive to a man she does not like.
The chosen one of her heart, Morin, left for the war ends up finding her when he returned there but the health of his beautiful was such that she died of exhaustion and sadness in his arms.
So as not to succumb to sadness in turn, Morin then built an imposing dam to divert a stream. He buried his beauty at the bottom of a hollow in the ground and destroyed the dam he had erected. Water filled the entire area and formed a lake.
The history books have retained another version of the park and its lake. The place, conducive to trade, allowed barges coming from Ghent to load/unload their goods via the Bruges-Ghent canal.
Surrounded by an imposing defensive tower on one side and by the lock keeper's house on the other, the inner port of Bruges was therefore a noisy and very active place whose name at the time "Binnenwater" (inner basin) was later distorted and appropriated by locals.
What is seen of the park and the lake today is a relatively recent view. The places were still dedicated to work at the beginning of the 20th century. In 1969, various constructions bordering the park were destroyed and the premises were redesigned as a public park.
