You'd think it would be as easy as taking the required documents to the DMV, in order to change your gender. But nooo. Oh, if you go there, they'll tell you you have what you need. And then two hours later, when you finally get to the front of the line, they'll tell you they don't have what they need. True story. In the end, you have to get the Doctor's Note (previous picture) sent to Richmond, so you can get the Special Richmond Note (this note), and then go BACK to the DMV with the Special Richmond Note.

I mean really, look at this b.s. -- "Medical Evaluator Senior"? As far as anyone should be concerned, the only medical evaluation the DMV should be performing on individuals is that which determines if they can drive (i.e. the eye exam). This is incredibly oppressive, especially given that you get your gender changed federally before going to the state. So at this point, the state is creating an extra gate, despite that gate already having to be passed in order to get the federal recognition. The main problem here seems to be that Social Security Cards don't have a gender. (Why should they, to be honest?) But the Social Security Administration absolutely stores what gender people are, as part of benefits distribution. So the only organization you have to go through to change your gender nationally... Won't give you anything beyond a note confirming it. And that note is no good at the DMV, even though state authority cedes to federal authority. So you have to jump through the same hoop, yet again. Except in this case, you have to use a letter to get another letter to get an ID, which is one more level of indirect bureaucratic b.s. than should be necessary.

So anyway -- now Clio has all she needs to get her new license with her new name and gender. Yayy!! But what a pain!
