Chickamauga National Battlefield (Catoosa and Walker County, Georgia)

            Historic Civil War Chickamauga Battlefield in the Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park in Catoosa and Walker Counties, Georgia.   Union troops suffered heavy losses at the Battle of Chickamauga (September 18-20, 1863) and retreated to safety in Chattanooga where two months later the entrenched Union forces defeated the Confederates during the Battle of Chattanooga (November 23-25, 1863).

The Chickamauga and Chattanooga battlefield sites were designated as the first national battlefield park created by the federal government to memorialize significant military engagements of the Civil War.  The Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1966 (NRHP No. 66000274).
