Washington - a photo on Flickriver

Washington

            The grave of Elizabeth Smith lays to the right of her husband, James.  They were originally from Scotland. Their daughter, who was born in 1844 and lived to the age of 65, is buried nearby. But she is not under the small stone on the left.

That small stone, seemingly ungraven, seems a mystery at first.  It is not likely another child of James and Elizabeth since they came to America. And yet, the stone lies closer to Elizabeth than the stone of her own husband. 

 Elizabeth died in 1895, and her husband, James, five years after. The stone seems a mirror of James', but is silent. 

The top of James' stone reads faintly "Father." There's a slight impression on its mirror that could read "Mother." If so, the main stone, the stone in the center to Elizabeth is actually a family stone honoring Elizabeth with full name and birth dates and the assurance that she is "At Rest." 

The small stone to the left is her actual headstone.
