Market Harborough - Meridian & Modernisation

            Rounding the curve from Market Harborough Station, EMR Intercity no. 222016 (leading 222018) races past Little Bowden Footbridge on the south-eastern outskirts of the town. 

The pair of "Meridian" units were working 1C09, the 0926 semi-fast Sunday-only service from Sheffield Midland to London St. Pancras Int'l; due to a points failure, it left Sheffield 42 minutes late and ended up running non-stop south of Leicester to try and reduce the impact on the timetable (which was a success - they arrived into St. Pancras only 18 minutes behind time).

Above the train, last week's industrious work to prepare the MML for electrification can be seen; bar a handful of cantilevers, the catenary wires and the contact wires, the two tension lengths' worth of equipment through Market Harborough is complete (including earth wires).
