B&O Mineral City local Canton - a photo on Flickriver

            A southbound B&O GP9 passes the northbound home signal at McKinley tower in Canton on December 1972.  The top of the tower is visible above the first car which is probably an idler for when they drop off the gons loaded with scrap.  The scrap in the gondolas is probably headed for Republic Steel on the east side of Canton which the B&O didn't serve.  It will be set off and interchanged to Penn Central or N&W on the way back north to Akron to avoid having it be in the way on the switchback in Mineral City.  Switches to both PC and N&W faced so they were easiest switched going north.  If they didn't get their work done in time and had to race back to Akron, they would be the first switch the next day.   This piece of track is now abandoned.  The W&LE gets on the former B&O at McKinley interlocking and goes north to North Canton and gets on what the Wheeling calls their Sandy branch about a mile to the south where the B&O crossed the N&W.
