New friends!

As mentioned in previous photographs, I went out to an izakaya, Motsuyaki Inagaki, for my last dinner of this trip. Being a solo diner, I was naturally placed at the bar, where I could order most of my meal by yelling it at the men working on the other side of the bar at the kitchen. At some point, I was yelling "sumimasen" (or "excuse me") to try to get the attention of the man who was grilling skewers. The folks to the left of me then make a comment that I assumed was to the effect of "you'll have to speak up" and continue to speak to me in Japanese... except that my Japanese is not great.

However, Shunsuke and Ayaka both spoke English, so we ended up conversing for the rest of our time at the izakaya while exchanging drinks. As our time there was winding down, they invited me out for drinks on Hoppy Street but everything was pretty much closed by the time we got there, so it was off to Isomaru Suisan instead for many bottles of Hoppy and wee bit more food along with some fun and nice conversation. It's very interesting how I was more into their pop culture and they were more into mine, but I suppose it's how these things work. I also recall that we ended up with a running joke wherein I referred to everything old as being from the Meiji-jidai or the Meiji Period. We mainly spoke English but I used as much Japanese as could, meaning random words as opposed to sentences.
