Telluride is an exclusive place, and as such, they make it very hard for new development to take place. This area, known as the Valley Floor was privately owned and used as cow pasture land for years. When the owner decided to cash in and develop a resort, the town quickly condemned the land as "wetland habitat" effectively turning the property into land without value. Over the next few years, the owners fought with the town and eventually lost in court, allowing the town to buy the 572 Acre property for a little more than $50,000,000. Now, it's a recreation area for everyone to enjoy. I'll be spending a lot more time there next year.
