Richard Goodridge - a photo on Flickriver

Richard Goodridge

            Richard is a Maricopa Indian (also has Apache and a couple of other tribes, but is Maricopa through and through.  Richard and I happened to hook up and I visited him today at his home on the Gila River Indian Community.  Richard is trying to preserve the culture, customs, and crafts of his ancestors.  I am starting to help him prepare and submit  a proposal for an Artist in Residence grant at the Eiteljorg Museum of American Indians and Western Art in Indianapolis, IN.  

The house is not Richard's, it is across the dirt drive or street that leads to his very modest home.  I only saw one room, but I know that his roof caved in last year.  Within a couple of weeks he will have a new, five bedroom three bath, home built and his current home will be bulldozed.
