Resize 2-up - Beak to Beak - a photo on Flickriver

            The above 2-up image was derived from a 2500 pixel wide crop of the original capture next to a reprocessed image that I increased in size to 100,000 pixels, saved, and closed.  I then re-opened the 100,000 pixel version, and resized it back down to 2500 pixels.

The reason I did that was because I figured Adobe's sizing algorithm would "look" at the original pixels and then perform some calculations using the pixels around each pixel to enlarge the image in a sensible way.  And then when I downsized the larger version, the algorithm would look at an appropriately sized group of pixels, and then average the group to a single pixel to decrease the number of pixels by a factor of 40 (or as needed depending on the size change).
I figured the size changes would either distort or refine the image (by averaging out some of the noise), and to my pleasure the technique actually refined the image and made the barbules in the feathers even sharper.  Which makes me wonder if this is how Adobe's "sharpening algorithm" works. Though it seems to me, the sharpening algorithm goes a bit "over the top".
