Detective Story - Final Questions - a photo on Flickriver

            Floor by floor and room by room my guns barked out questions. The stench of fear was overwhelming. By all means I’m no slouch when it comes to gun play but the Fox’s men ain’t no strangers to it either. Some of the best from what I hear. Yet their response is panicked. Combat stimulants might make them harder to take down but it also clouds their judgment. Still a few of their shots hit home and shatter whats left of my armor. The Fox’s goons ain’t the only obstacle here either. Combat androids and gun turrets litter the hallways. I avoid what I can but the robots are much better shots. Ducking into an empty room I check what little ammo I have left and ditch the broken armor. Blood starts to stain my vest as I rack the last couple shells into the shotgun. If I’m going to question the Fox I’ll have to be quick. 

On the upper levels I caught sight of the man I was after. The Fox looked like he hadn’t slept in days. He must have taken his fair share of stimulants. His hands shook has he tried to program his last wave of defense. “We could do this much easier ya know. Just have a few questions for ya. Don’t have to spill each other’s blood over some silly questions. You’re a smart guy right?” The man was in no mood for humor as the wall I was standing behind quickly melted to slag. “DID THAT WITCH SEND YOU? SHE WANTS ME DEAD. I WAS FRAMED.” Perhaps this wasn’t the best time to be asking questions to the Fox. All things considered maybe he wasn’t in the right state of mind but he was talking. Blasting apart a few of his security drones I found a new wall to take cover behind. “Fair points mister but that so called witch the late Mrs Blackwood is already dead. Maybe we got off on the wrong foot. Your boys try and put me six feet under. I blow up your front door. Perfect time to sit down and hash things out.” 

“Dead… DEAD?” The Fox stumbled out the door and onto the roof in a state of panic. Reason was the last thing he wanted to listen to. Collecting myself I put down the last of his robots. My own vision was getting a little fuzzy, blood loss most likely. I got one shot left. Performing a little triage I bandage myself up a little before stepping out on the roof. The lasers from various gun turrets light me up. As I back towards the edge of the roof the Fox turns into a giggling mess. “Sure you don’t wanna chat? You’re a smart guy.” this baby face and silver tongue ain’t charming him out of this. The gun turrets start to spin up as my finger tightens on the trigger.
