Smash EDO-Remember Gazza Protest - a photo on Flickriver

Police fend off protesters.

EDO is a company in Brighton who protestors say provide bomb arming and release mechanisms used by Israeli aircraft. The 18th January 2009 saw the end of Operation Cast Lead, the Israeli air and ground offensive against Gazza.

To mark the first anniversary of the operation, Smash EDO called for a demonstration to remember those killed.

The majority of more than 300 protesters attempted to gain access to EDO's premises via woodland, some briefly entering the industrial estate. The remainder of the demonstrators stayed near the Lewes Road reading the names of Palestinians killed in Operation Cast Lead. Both groups then marched to the centre of Brighton.

There were some clashes with police. 5 protesters were reported arrested.
