RHTT 'Satsumas' at Shirland Lane and Dewsbury class 70 at Norfolk Bridge - 5208/214+211

Wasting absolutely no time moving back towards Sheffield and about 1.5km away, to the River Don over-bridge at Burton Weir, a class 70 was in the area and had passed Aldwarke Junction, fortunately 13 minutes late at 11:32 and was heading, slowly, this way, the last of the RHTT pictures having being taken at 11:35; no time to loose. The recent heavy rainfall resulted in the River Don flooding in various places but thankfully, although the river was very high, see top left picture here taken on October 27th, after thee rain had stopped, but not the yet to peak surge in water levels-

it was contained in this area but with a lot of damage to the River tree plantings, some of which have been up-rooted. These two shots were taken over-looking the scene and can be compared to very similar shots taken here on October 14th, again with a class 70, 70006, see-

Today, its again a Freightliner, who operate this diagram, with class 70, 70020 on the 6M89 Dewsbury Blue Circle to Hope Earles Sidings and a rake of 36 empty, PCA Cement Tanks, heading back to the Castleton Quarry for a refill. The foreground shows the damage caused by the River flooding which occured between 70006 passing over the Norfolk Bridge and this one today. Although the damage has left a much clearer view over the scene, ominously now, on the left and shown in more detail in the right-had picture, a new building construction is under way on the south side of the river; this view is looking to the west. The skeleton structure of the building is already blocking the once visible site of the Midland's old Attercliffe Road Station and the large building next to it, is 'TSL Turton Coil Spring & Anti-roll Bar Manufacturers' on Effingham Street and still very much in business. Once the new building is finished, the view towards Sheffield Midland and the old station site here, will be completely blocked and render railway interest in the area, obliterated once more. This site was cleared up and landscaped after the much more severe 2007 floods, see Adrian Wynn's picture of the operation, taken in early 2009-

the river bed is now a mess again here, though note to the extent it was 10 years ago, it remains to be seen what will happen next...
