Lancing College Interior Wide Angle - a photo on Flickriver

            I love the way wide angle lenses and converging verticals provide a sense of scale on interior shots of this type. However, I always find getting exposure right on these wide angle shots tricky. When your lens has a field of view greater than 100 degrees, there can be a wide range of lighting across the scene. However good your camera’s metering system, the possibility exists that some areas will be overexposed, and some under exposed. My strategy for this shot was to start with a very underexposed image (-5EV!!) and recover the shadows because I did not want to resort to an HDR using the five bracketed shots I took. While this does impact on image quality, I find the end result aesthetically more pleasing than a typical HDR image. Taken using my PENTAX K-1 and a Samyang 14mm f/2.8 lens. The image was developed from RAW using DxO Optics Pro 11 (including some volumetric distortion correction using DxO View Point). Some stylisation has been performed using ON1 Photo RAW and the image has had unwanted artefacts removed using Affinity Photo.
