Film homage, 1930's, Josephine Sarah Marcus Earp, "I Married Wyatt Earp," 1984, c. 1880's

            This image is on the wall in the Bird Cage's basement next to a room used as a prostitute's "crib." It is said to be Josephine Sarah Marcus Earp (1861-1944) Wyatt Earp's companion from 1881 to Earp's death in 1929.  

(I doubt this is a portrait of Josephine. This woman bears a slight resemblance to C.S. Fly's verified photo of her. But truth never got in the way of creating the myth of the American West.)
But Josie  may have been a prostitute for awhile.

While calling herself Mrs. Earp, they never married.

Josephine ran away from home at 18 by joining a traveling theater company as a dancer, arriving in Tombstone, Arizona Territory in December 1879. 

Her autobiography was posthumously published in 1976 by the University of Arizona press; edited by Tombstone scholar Glenn Boyer, with this disputed image on the cover.. 

It was made into a TV movie,  "I Married Wyatt Earp," starring Marie Osmond in 1984.
