Eastbound At Flint - a photo on Flickriver

Eastbound At Flint

            Maryland Midland's local to Highfield is returning eastbound down the Blue Ridge mountains at Flint MD with a handful of cars in tow. This trackage was once part of the Western Maryland Railway's East Sub but was spun off by Chessie System to the Maryland Midland on October 1, 1983 which incidentally was also the date that the Western Maryland Railway was officially absorbed by the B&O. The WM had been controlled by the B&O/C&O since 1967 and became a part of the Chessie System in 1973 losing it's independence along the way along with a good deal of "duplicate mainline" yet it was still a corporation on paper. That ended on October 1, 1983.
