Mountain Rapture

            We're back after two months of hiking Washington's Cascade and Olympic Mountains. This was a trip Mrs. Orca and I had been talking about for many years, but kept putting off in favor of travel farther afield. We finally decided this was the year to do it, though, and we were rewarded with an unforgettable summer. The centerpiece of the trip was hiking the Washington section of the Pacific Crest Trail, a little more than five hundred miles of mostly unblemished mountain wilderness punctuated by a string of towering ice-covered volcanoes. We also bookended the trip with three hikes of five to seven days in the Olympics, which is more-or-less our own backyard. The above is from the hike up the Hoh Valley to the Blue Glacier on Mount Olympus, an old favorite, which Mrs. Orca and I first hiked back in 2006. It is, I believe, the most scenic place you can walk to in Washington, and as spectacular a place as I have ever been.
