            A South Sudanese refugee carries thatch through UK-aid funded Protection of Civilians site in Wau, Western Bar e Ghazal, South Sudan.

DFID had been funding IOM to provide support to Greater Upper Nile (Unity, Upper Nile and Jongelei).  

In June 2016, there was fighting in Wau and UK aid support was critical to enable IOM to rapidly deliver an emergency response there. Since then, UK aid support has allowed IOM to provide essential WASH, Shelter and non-food items to the more than 30,000 Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) living in the site. 

Throughout 2016 the Wau PoC site was the most overcrowded PoC site in South Sudan. From the end of 2016 and into early 2017 DFID funding has allowed IOM to develop the site to improve living conditions for IDPs.
