I'll catch your dreams... - a photo on Flickriver

...and keep them warm and safe within my heart.

The clouds were heavy and intermittent rain was pouring from the sky. The clock said that the sun was rising - maybe in a parallel world, maybe for a doppelgänger Diego. The world was ashen gray, and I kept taking bracketings. After a while, an eerie glow started to spread on the waters as a small breach in the clouds let some golden and rosy sunlight transpire. Not too much, apparently, but it looks as if my eyes were more stingy than my sensor. The light was pouring behind a small fishing house, playing through the hanging fishing net, making it look like a giant dreamcatcher.

My wife and I had a little vacation at the seaside, in Milano Marittima (i.e. Milan-on-the-seaside, but the name of the place should not fool you: it is more than 300 km from Milan). We had a wonderful, intimate time - and I went chasing sunrises, earning three sunrise sessions in five days. I was lucky enought that there were utterly different weather conditions every time: cloudy, almost cloudy, and clear sky.

This shot is from my first session, which was an almost discouraging one - gray sky, heavy clouds, intermittent rain, no sun... However I did not feel like wasting the chance, so I took my exposure bracketings, hoping in the secrete treasures hidden in the numbers of my RAW files. I took this bracketing rather wrong, since I accidentally set up a ridiculously excessive EV steps: -4.0/-2.0/0/+2.0/+4.0 EV (the last shot was thoroughly useless, being almost totally white), but I decided that it was just right for a first processing attempt. My RAWs did not fail me, and this is the result.

I have obtained this picture by blending a damned wrong set 5-exposure bracketing [-4.0/-2.0/0/+2.0/+4.0 EV] by luminosity masks with the Gimp (EXIF data, as usual, refer to the "normal exposure" shot), then I added some final touches with Nik Color Efex Pro 4. I tried the inverted RGB blue channel technique described by Boris Hajdukovic as a possible final contribution to the processing, which especially improved the beach, washing away some of its dullness.
