            Pélican blanc
Ce très gros oiseau ressemble beaucoup à son cousin, le Pélican frisé (Pelecanus crispus). Le Pélican blanc en diffère cependant par son plumage qui est entièrement blanc, excepté les grandes plumes noires des ailes, visibles par dessous en vol. Mais sa caractéristique la plus remarquable demeure la poche de peau jaunâtre sous le bec, d'une capacité de treize litres où il peut stocker jusqu'à 4 kg de poisson. Il possède par ailleurs une paire de pattes rosées à rougeâtres dont les quatre doigts sont réunis par la même palmure. Le mâle est pourvu d'une huppe derrière la tête.
