Welsh Alpaca Show 2023

                     Held at the Welshpool Livestock Centre / Sales (Welshpool Smithfield) on Saturday 21/10/2023, just after two days of heavy rain, leaving many roads flooded and leading to a number of competitors not being able to make it to the show. The proceeds of the show went to the Royal Benevolent Agricultural Institution, a charity providing support to the farming community across England and Wales.

There were many entrants of all shapes and sizes, all of whom were housed in the centres' spacious pens and who competed in many categories in the show ring. I hope the pictures give a glimpse of how unusual and beautiful these friendly and characterful creatures are. The expressions on their faces are fascinating! They are relatively easy to keep if you have the land, but because they are flock animals, they need to be kept with companions, three minimum.

Apologies to any humans who feel they are 'out of focus' in any of the pictures – the camera was set to lock onto and track the animals eyes, with a short focal plane to the front and back of the selected eye.
