Alpine Country Star 2014 August 21 IMG_7396 Before and After

            "Original" is probably is misnomer. It appears that it had undergone a limited amount of editing from the time it left the camera. But the major editing is illustrated here and was a lot more work than I had anticipated. Was it worth the effort? Probably not. But editing my photos is half the fun (and 99% of the time commitment).

1) As is normal, I eliminated the white strip lighting. I also eliminated all the imperfections on the stage backdrop.

2) Then I darkened the levels of the entire photo and created a layer mask which allowed me to bring back the original tone of the two ladies.

The first 2 steps are quite common for these pictures.

3) The microphone chord and mic stand created special problems where they crossed the guitarist's face (as well as the guitar strings). Cloning left a particular mess over her eye. So I made a copy of her left eye, flipped it horizontally and positioned it over her right eye. After a little smoothing around the new eye, it was looking quite a bit better.

4) But it still wasn't 100%. I created an artificial shallow depth of field by blurring the guitar player slightly (bokeh). This accomplished 2 goals. It brought attention to the main subject (Kenzie) and disguised some of the imperfections that remained on the guitarist's face after step 3.
