Joaldun es un personaje tradicional de la cultura vasca originario de los pueblos navarros de Ituren y Zubieta que anuncia la llegada del Carnaval agitando sus cencerros (joareak o joaleak) en la última semana de enero.
.Joaldunak o Ioaldunak, visten enaguas de puntillas, abarcas, se cubren de piel de oveja por hombros y cintura, pañuelos de colores (generalmente de cuadros azules) al cuello, gorros cónicos con cintas, hisopos de cola de caballo y un par de cencerros de gran tamaño, que suenan al compas al marchar al unísono todos los integrantes del grupo.

Joaldun is a traditional carnival character in the Basque culture of Navarre, especially in two small villages in the north of the province, Ituren and Zubieta. His function is to shake cowbells to alert people to the beginning of the carnival, which is celebrated annually on the last weekend of January.
