8867 Little River 25/03/2024

            Running a few minutes late, V/Line's 8867 from Southern Cross to Warrnambool powers through the locality of Little River with N462 hauling a 5 carriage N set on Monday the 25th of March 2024. 

V/Line’s locomotive hauled passenger services are currently in their dying days, with the N class hauled trains only running on a handful of lines on selected services to Bairnsdale, all trains to Warrnambool and Swan Hill as well as some weekday intercity peak services to Geelong. It's expected the longer distance runs will remain for some time to enable track upgrades and stabling facilities for VLocity railcars to be built during the first half of the year. 

Last weekend saw 4 N classes leased to local operator SSR for their broad gauge grain operations in the hopes that their locomotive and reliability issues will be improved, the remaining N's are either still active on V/Line's passenger workings or placed in storage at South Dynon or Geelong locomotive depots.
