12-Point Bull Elk (20121023-161954-PJG)

When we stopped at the entrance to Jasper National Park, the ranger advised us to be careful of the animals. The bears, wolves, mountain sheep and goats, deer and elks could be anywhere, he had said, and it is elk rutting season. Basically, this meant never get in between a male elk and his females, as they would even charge a car.

As we drove on to the Jasper Township, I thought this will be interesting. About half way there, everything was stopped because of the elk on the road. A little further along, we came across this 6x6 bull watching his herd by the side of the road. I stopped a bit away, and changed to my big lens. This shot is done at 240mm, with the bull on the passenger side of the car, and me standing on the driver side shooting over the hood.

I think it is giving me a raspberry, sticking its tongue out at me! :) It could just be the angle of its jaw too. LOL!
