Sandpiper Migration (20130819-111315-PJG)

A few weeks ago, I went out to see the Semipalmated Sandpipers at Johnson's Mills. Thousands tend to come by here on their route south. The day that I went out there weren't many.

I decided to head out there, by myself, today, on a whim, something I rarely do. One needs to check the tides as well, and catch them at high tide, when they are all on the beach. My first stop out in that area didn't have any, and it was cold, foggy, and windy.

I then stopped at the interpretative centre, where this shot was taken from their viewing platform. According to the guides, the current count is about 70,000 birds. About a third of that flock is missing off the left edge.
