Bonfire, Labour Weekend 30 - a photo on Flickriver

            Clearing out the implement sheds over labour weekend created an enormous pile of rubbish - much of which needed to be burned. The heat distortion in the air above the fire looks to the naked eye like a shimmer, but with a fast lens it appears as ridges and waves, blurring objects in the background in a way reminiscent of Vincent van Gogh. 
The horses were untroubled by the fire, the smoke blowing consistently away from their field. It is merely forced perspective that makes this horse appear to be almost in the flames.
