Caruth Funeral Home, Ambulance racing down Central Avenue, Hot Springs, Arkansas, 1967

This 1966 light blue Caruth Funeral Home ambulance hurries down Central Avenue in Hot Springs, Arkansas in 1967. The full Superior Pontiac ambulance had a partition between the driver and the patient area.

There were two face-to-face jump seats for the attendant and a family member to ride in the back of the ambulance with the patient during a run. The ambulance featured a Federal Q2 siren on its roof, four alternating roof bullet lights, and a clear beaconray on the roof with white and red sealed beam revolving lights.

Caruth Funeral Home was then located at 655 Park Avenue. It had been in operation in Hot Springs since 1919, founded by the late Paul J. Caruth. It ended ambulance service July 1, 1973 along with Gross Mortuary, the other ambulance provider at that time in Hot Springs.

HISTORICAL NOTE
I took this picture in front of historic Bath House Row, and this old picture shows the row of businesses operating on Central Avenue at this time including one of the famous auction houses which lined the four-lane avenue at that time.
