DSC_9769-2R1 Female Elk - a photo on Flickriver

            This female Elk (Cervus canadensis) was seen near the Oconaluftee Visitor Center in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park in North Carolina.  

As many animals today are showing us, they do not appreciate our presence.  This animal was a distance off the highway, and I was a passenger inside our stopped car.  But if you notice her face, she seems to be aggravated at my presence.  We left after a few minutes.  I personally feel we should consider minimizing the time we are in the animal's space, especially if the animal begins to show concern.

This makes photography even more of a challenge; even with a 500mm lens.
