Golden Weeping Willow #treetrail Salix × sepulcralis 'Chrysocoma' #GoldenWeepingWillow2 in Whitworth Park

Visible from all directions, but maybe best approached from Oxford Road, are this pair of weeping golden willows. From the front you would be forgiven for thinking it to be a single dome shaped tree. With branches that hang so far from the base and curtains of green and gold leaves tumbling to touch the ground, it makes it difficult to discover where the trunks actually originate.

Like all willows these grow wild alongside water and they do a valuable job absorbing excess water from the soil. Celebrated for their enormous, majestic size and the movement and form of their lush foliage, the mature weeping willow tree provides an oasis of summertime shade. They offer hours of fun for children climbing and swinging from the branches. No matter how old you may be, take the opportunity to hide amongst the branches, a magical refuge from the outside world.
