University Vice Chancellor invited to join trade union (UCU)

In 2021 UK universities enjoyed a record income of £41.1bn and finished the year with £3.4bn spare cash in the bank. The higher education sector holds over £40bn in reserves and is planning to spend £4bn on new buildings. The 150 vice-chancellors in the UK collectively take home a salary of £45million (average VC salary circa £300,000 in 2021)

Meanwhile, the University of Manchester (like many others in the UK) keep 2455 staff on fixed-term contracts, harming their mental health, while pretending they care.

Frontline staff have been rewarded with attacks on their pay, working conditions, and pensions. Instead of investing fee income from students (their cash cows) into teaching and learning, Universities spend it on large building programmes and other vanity projects. www.ucu.org.uk/rising
