Orange Nectar Bat - Lonchophylla robusta (Phyllostomidae, Lonchophyllinae, Lonchophyllini) 109m-0633

            This hummingbird feeder was usually covered with a towel at night to keep the long-tongued, nectar-seeking bats from draining it dry. One night, at my request, it was left uncovered for a few minutes so I could get some photos of the action. If you look closely, you can see the bat's ultra-long tongue dipping into the sweet, sugary reward.
