Seit 1715 - 1803 war es im Besitz des Klosters Muri in der Schweiz.

Im Jahre 1830 erreichte die Dettenseer Judengemeinde mit 197 Mitgliedern ihren höchsten Stand. Mehr als die Hälfte der Bevölkerung von Dettensee war demnach jüdischen Glaubens, der Rest der kleinen Gemeinde war katholisch.

Ein "Bet-ha-Knesset", eine Synagoge, war immer nicht nur Betstätte, sondern auch Versammlungshaus, Lehr- und Lernstätte.

Die Gemeinde löste sich 1928 auf.

Of several Jewish communites in the region around (Horb am Neckar) Horb on the Neckar River, a small settlement in Dettensee existed until the beginning of the 20th century and was one of the most respected synagogue after Hechingen.

The synagogue (shown above) was dismantled after the dissolution of the community in 1928.

The cemetery east of town evidences Dettensee's Jewish history.
And the original wooden portal can be yet seen.

Nothing was destroyed - only used in an new way.

The stones of the synagogue took the last living Jew in Dettensee, Mr. Hirsch, to give the cementry a strong wall around, which is a good one until now.

Über dem Portal ist noch ein guterhaltenes Wappen im Stein zu sehen. Die alten schönen Glasleuchter hängen noch im Raum; die kleine, aber in sehr gefälligen Formen gehaltene, mit schön geschnitzten und vergoldeten Löwen geschmückte heilige Lage hebt sich von dem satten Blau eines gemalten Fürstenmantels wirkungsvoll ab. Der zierliche Almemor steht noch an seinem Platz und ringsherum ein Teil der Ständer. Sitzbänke gab es keine.
