RR - a photo on Flickriver

I was Walking to Hampstead Heath a couple of weekends ago to run my first IR film through the Mamiya when I came accross this awesome machine which was being cooled off in the shade. I complimented the car and asked if it was ok if I took some pictures of it. The owner graciously allowed me to do so and even asked if I wanted the bonnet closed, I said no because I thought it looked nice like this. He told me that the car was from 1946 (I think) and the V12 in here is one of a pair used in to power the Spitfire!

The IR film was a complete bust. Not even something remotely approaching a picture, all completely black =(. I think my mistake was that I used an IR filter that was too aggressive. My B+W is about 900nm I think and the film is not sensative enough for it so I will have to go out and get an R72 filter and (from what a fellow friendly Flickrite, who uses IR820 tells me) much longer exposures too. If this shot had not come out as well as this I would have been much more upset about loosing the IR roll.

The kind owner of this amazing car also helped me with the exposure for this. This was the first shot I have taken with no light meter at all in my life. This and the rest of the images came out fine so I guess I am doing OK, it's much easier than it sounds actually.

The first page of my gallery has now been totally terrorised by film. Come on... look at this and tell me it's possible to get magic like that on digital with a straight face, I dare you.
