Discharged February 15, 1865 at Huntsville, Alabama

August Wise was born on March 17, 1835, in Sulzfeld, Baden-Württemberg, Germany, to Christina Susanna Pfefferle and Benjamin Leopold (Weiß) Weiss.

After his father died in 1953 in Germany, his mother and her five children immigrated to the United States in 1854 locating first in upper Sandusky, Ohio and later moving a farm to Clayton County, Iowa near Guttenberg.

He enrolled as Private, Company "F", 101st Regiment Ohio Volunteer Infantry, August 9, 1862 at Monroeville, Ohio and was discharged February 15, 1865 at Huntsville, Alabama on surgeon’s certificate of disability.  

He married Magdalene Schneider on May 4, 1860, in Wyandot, Ohio and they had seven children:  Rosa, Lillian, Oliver, Charles, William, Leroy and Lair.  

He died on June 19, 1926, in Morrisonville, Illinois, at the age of 91, and was buried there.
