Bob - a photo on Flickriver

The first time I met Bob was in 1996 at the Central Pennsylvania Festival of the Arts. I remember Julie & I had come across his work, and in our opinion, truly stood head and shoulders above everything else at the festival. We talked to him for a good half hour, and I myself had a lot of questions because of my own collage work. We found out the next day that he had won the Best In Show award – it was great to see his work rewarded like that. He won the Best In Show award at the Three Rivers Arts Festival two years later, and has since then been a regular at both shows.

Going back to that first year, when we had chatted his ear off, I remember going back to Pittsburgh and talking to my brother-in-law and his girlfriend about this fantastic artist we had met in State College.

“Oh yeah, Bob”, said Janlyn.

Apparently, Janlyn is very good friends with Bob’s wife, and also Bob himself, and this is the kicker; just six months before, Jul & I sat through the entire video of Bob’s wedding that Dan, my brother-in-law, had filmed.

I guess it hadn’t made that much of an impression on me. No offense to Dan, but wedding ceremonies of people you don’t know just aren’t that interesting, unless someone in the bridal party passes out.
