Blue Dasher (male) Pachydiplax longipennis

            Normally, I would post these as a series but I've flooded 'em out here so that they can all be seen in the large size. These are some images taken at my neighborhood pond where we have an absolute infestation of blue dashers right now. These three are the results of a ton of attempts (culled from possibly 300 snaps) that are part of an experiment in getting more detail in the eyes of these critters.

This particular bug kept returning to the same two perches repeatedly giving me a ton of time to take both manually focused captures as well as AF pics. In every case of an autofocused picture, some detail was lost in the eyes of the bug and I think there a a few factors that play into it. Primary among those issues, though seems to be a problem with focusing on blue subjects. I've had a number of times that the camera just doesn't seem to be able to lock on things and they are usually blue when it does that. Has anyone else seen this?
