Life Is Fragile

            I was once expected to promote a philosophy of "Life Is SImple." (The story of why one would expect that of me is in itself not simple.) I had difficulty in understanding in what ways that could apply, except for ways that were generalizing or oversimplifications. The full version of that quote was "Life is simple. You make choices, and you don't look back," about which a former partner of mine was enthusiastic, which came from the movie "The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift." Although many types of movies that could be made about Tokyo would interest me, I chose not to see that movie, because I am not a fan of car racing, which I believe is not good for the environment. I have felt more and more over the years that life can be complicated, and that there are dangers of overgeneralizing. I like to study individual circumstances and handle each one on its own. In some cases, looking back to learn from one's mistakes could be beneficial, unless the prior situation was so unusual that it would not be replicated in the future anyway. One could say that being caring is good and respecting nature is good. But being caring and respecting still can't prevent disasters that sometimes affect areas of our fragile world. Such as recently Japan, which had some coastal areas washed away from tsunami, 8.9 magnitude earthquake devastation, effects through central Tokyo and elsewhere. My photograph here from Shizuoka Prefecture, Shuzenji shows how closely living areas and nature sometimes intermingle in Japan, as they do in many other places in the world. My heart goes out to those who have suffered and must make difficult decisions about their and their loved ones' futures after Japan's earthquake and tsunami.
