MILLER'S BEST (SHOES?) - a photo on Flickriver

On Pittsburgh Street in Scottdale, Pa. In the middle is Burns Drugstore where we sat at the soda fountain in the 1960's.
A hundred years ago Scottdale was one of the wealthiest small towns around because of the presence of the coal and coke industries. After the depression it lost a lot of its industry and population and never really recovered. In the name of urban renewal in the early 1970's nearly half of the downtown was demolished for redevelopment. The remains of the prosperous days are still in evidence.
