L'Association Nord Irlandaise des Droits Civiques (NICRA), directement inspirée du mouvement noir américain serait née le premier février 1967. Cette association pacifiste avait pour principal but de dénoncer les discriminations sociales dont faisait l'objet la communauté catholique.

L'après midi du 30 janvier 1972, une marche est organisée par la NICRA et est aussitôt déclarée illégalle par les autorités. À l'embouchure de la William Street sont posté une centaine d'hommes de la Royal Ulter Constabulary, et, chose inhabituelle des parachutistes de l'armée britannique sont venus avec leurs blindés leurs prêter main forte. Aux slogans succèdent injures et jets d'objets divers et variés. Les soldats répondent avec des tirs de balles en caoutchouc. Une émeute "tout ce qu'il y a de plus banale". À 15h50 John Johnston et Damien Donaghey s'écroulent sur William Street blessé par les tirs de fusils d'assauts du premier bataillon de parachutistes. La panique se mélange à l'amertume, les blindés font irruption dans Rossville Street. Le massacre a fait 14 morts.

Plusieurs soldats avoueront avoir menti lors de leurs dépositions précédentes et reconnaîtront que les victimes étaient désarmées. Attendu pour 2007, le rapport final est publié le 15 juin 2010 à Derry. Les familles des victimes organisent pour l'occasion une marche silencieuse. Suite à sa publication, le gouvernement britannique, par une intervention de David Cameron à la Chambre des communes, reconnaît la responsabilité des parachutistes et présente ses excuses."

En s'excusant, le premier ministre britannique David Cameron a nettement amélioré les relations anglo-irlandaises.

Ici, je ne dénonce rien, par contre, j'aimerais conscientiser d'autres nations à ce fait. Beaucoup pourraient apprendre du processus de paix en Irlande du Nord. Je me demande par exemple, pourquoi n'y a-t-il pas de casques bleus en Palestine...

The North Ireland Civic Rights Association (NICRA), directly inspired from the American Black Movement was born on the February first 1967. This pacifist association had for main goal to denounce social discrimination which the catholic community was suffering from.

During the afternoon of January 30th 1972, a walk is organized by the NICRA, it is right away declared illegal by the authorities. At the entry of William Street are posted about one hundred men of the Royal Ulter Constabulary, and oddly, some paratroopers from Britain with their tanks. From shouting to various object throws, the soldiers replied with rubber bullets in what was an ordinary protest. At 3:50 PM, John Johnston and Damien Donaghey fell down under the fire of the paratroopers assault rifles. Panic mixed with bitterness, the tanks took Rossville Street. The massacre killed 14.

"Following a twelve-year inquiry, Saville's report was made public on 15 June 2010, and contained findings of fault that could re-open the controversy, and potentially lead to criminal investigations for some soldiers involved in the killings.[11] The report found that all of those shot were unarmed, and that the killings were both "unjustified and unjustifiable." On the publication of the Saville report the British prime minister, David Cameron, made a formal apology on behalf of the United Kingdom."

With his apology, British prime minister David Cameron greatly improved Anglo-Irish relations.

Here, I denounce nothing, nevertheless, I would like to point out this fact to other Nations. Many could learn from Northern Ireland peace process. For example, I ask myself, why are there no peacekeepers in Palestine...
