Harry Potter/Warner Bros. Studio Tour: Giant Wizards' Chess Pieces

After exploring the sets, props, and exhibits in ''The Big Room'' at the Warner Bros. Studio in Leavesden, we continued ''The Making of Harry Potter'' tour outside in ''The Backlot'', which features building exteriors, vehicles, and other oversized props and stage sets. (It was dark by the time we made it outside to the backlot, giving the photos more of a spooky atmosphere.)

Here, you can see several of the oversized Wizard's chess pieces used in the human chess game that Harry, Ron, and Hermione played in Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone. A few details on the chess pieces from the informational placard accompanying these sculptures:

The Chess Pieces
As one of the charms protecting the Philosopher's Stone, these wizard chessman were one of director Chris Columbus' favourite elements, and were featured in an iconic scene in the first film. The statues seen here are the original sculptures, many of which were rigged by the special effects team to move by radio control, and even explode.
