I have a couple of appointments tomorrow, and in case I don't have enough time to post or my eyes of so dilated that I can't look at this monitor, I thought I'd post one of my flora images from a decade of more ago.

When I had the Canon S3, S10, S20, I was sure that I wasn't going to get many images of birds, and so I concentrated on fauna. Oh, it wasn't so bad. (I did get a few birds, either trusting, hungry, or sluggish, you know, to match my own personna.)

I had developed and discovered how to darken the backgrounds of many subjects, and that allowed me to have subjects that most people wouldn't think twice about. Like ... the grasses. (A weak flash with the right background helps tremendously, and doesn't change the colors of the subject.)

Mt. Diablo is home to at least a dozen species of grass, but it's covered by oak and rye. A third grass that you'll see clumped here and there is the Tussock Grass, another native to California. Tussock grasses or bunch grasses are a group of grass species in the family Poaceae. They usually grow as singular plants in clumps, tufts, hummocks, or bunches, rather than forming a sod or lawn, in meadows, grasslands, and prairies. As perennial plants, most species live more than one season.

Because they're actually silky to the touch - if you go with the grain - I wondered if I could bring out the texture by darkening the background. Here's a first attempt.
