February 1 of 2020 as I took my dear canine Mr. Snuggles to the back yard to relieve himself, I peered towards a pile of leaves that the wind had blown against the house and noticed a set eyes peering at me through the leaves, close in color to the leaves themselves. No Snuggles didn’t notice at all which wasn’t surprising the poor old dog has never been the keenest observer, but as I looked I realized that we had a visitor in our patio, a coyote was what carefully tracking Mr. Snuggles and myself with his eyes as we both moved about. I quickly ushered Snuggles inside for his safety and yes rushed upstairs and grabbed my Olympus DSLR, my 70-300 mm and 1.4X teleconverter and ventured back outside to snap some shots of the coyote. It wasn’t more than 12 yards away, so I fired away a few shots. I don’t know why the poor beautiful creature took refuge in our yard, was it hurt? Did something scare it into that corner? Well did check on it that Saturday a few more times it remained carefully buried under the leaves moving ever so slightly its eyes tracking my every move. I got up the next day Sunday and checked and our guest was still there. By Sunday, it had gotten up and was calmly sitting in the yard its eyes carefully tracking my every movement, slight or otherwise. Being it was the weekend, and seeing how it had gotten up and moved so if it in fact was injured in some way its condition had improved, I chose to let it be, deciding in my head that it had until tomorrow before I informed the local authorities of his/her presence. Monday morning the guest coyote was gone, I guess his hospice in our yard served to allow him to recover from whatever frightened or ailed him.
