Hands of Rongshui I - a photo on Flickriver

Some more shots from my trip last week to Rongshui County with Robert Lio . We eventually made our way to a tiny Miao Village on a remote mountainside. How remote? After driving three hours, we traveled the last 30 minutes by boat down a river that I still have not been able to find on a map since coming home. After all that traveling we arrived to find practically nobody home! There had been a birth recently and almost the entire village had made their way into the city. We must have passed them en route! Still, we had a nice visit. Some folks made lunch and a precocious 10 year old boy was our guide for the day.

There were two old gals hanging out in house where they fed us. I was struck by their elegance, despite what was obviously a very difficult life for them. The house was dark except for the light coming in through the front door but these two were as still as statues so it didn't matter.
