Backstage at The Xinhui Tea House - a photo on Flickriver

I've been able to mix some business with pleasure recently. I'd been on assignment in Nanning but managed some free time over the weekend and got to meet three of my Flickr friends face to face for the first time.

Anissa, Vern, and Suri are three very talented young photographers and really nice people too. Somehow all three of them managed to abscond with one of my cameras for hours at a time and use said camera to take better photographs than me. Not surprising really but still... somehow unseemly! This morning we visted The Xinhui Teahouse where an assortment of retirees put on a show that was quite impressive. The old folks voices were not as powerful as they once were and most had definitely lost a step or two, but their dedication, attention to detail and preparation were amazing to witness. No couch potatos in this bunch! I talked with Vern about the show and we were both lamenting the fact that few of his generation seem to have any interest in keeping this traditional cultural treasure alive.

No rest for the weary, home two days then Guangzhou, Shenzen and Hong Kong.

One really should be careful what one wishes for.

I do hope to catch up with people one day soon. Honestly, I do.
