Mohammed Kasim - The Gujjar Nomad from Himachal Pradesh

            Mohammed Kasim in a Gujjar Nomad who ferries his buffaloes and cows and a few ponies, perhaps to carry his tents etc on a yearly route of availability of pastures. 

I spotted this wonderful place located midway between Narkanda and the Hatu peak. There is a small lake and I saw him, his brother, his son, his wife and his mother outside their hut.

They must have been wondering why I was there and this photo was taken at that very moment.

Narkanda is located on the old Tibet Road, just before it used to climb up to Thanedhar. Off this old road is a small circuitous climb to Hatu peak which is about 11000 feet. Enroute, about midway is this location called Jamunda. If you go there, make a stop. It is beautiful
 
Later on we spoke about cheesemaking and stuff like that.  He prefers to use Tartaric Acid to curdle the milk,- surely fast and easy way. I guess Rennet too will be making its appearance pretty soon in the Gujjar world.
 
How long the nomadic activity of the Gujjars continue? I seriously doubt the economic well being of this way of life and I think that it may soon vanish.
