La garceta común es una bonita garza de tamaño medio, su plumaje es completamente blanco,excepto su pico y sus patas que son de color negro con unos llamativos pies amarillos.
En época de reproducción nos muestra unas delicadas plumas ornamentales en la cabeza y en el dorso que alcanzan un tamaño considerable llegando a medir mas de 20 centímetros,tanto el los machos como en las hembras que a simple vista son indistinguibles.
Podemos encontrarla en lagunas,charcas,arrozales e incluso en balsas donde se alimenta de peces,ranas,insectos acuático,libélulas e incluso pequeños vertebrados terrestres.
