Si differenzia dalle altre specie di camoscio principalmente per le corna, che pur avendo la caratteristica forma ad uncino sono assai più lunghe (fino a 30 cm ed oltre, contro i 20 cm di media delle altre specie) rispetto a quelle degli altri camosci. Le corna sono perenni come in tutti i Bovidi, ossia non cadono, e presenti in ambedue i sessi.
Il camoscio d'Abruzzo durante i mesi estivi presenta colorazione rossiccia con le parti ventrali e la testa che sfumano nel giallastro, mentre durante l'inverno il manto estivo muta per lasciare il posto al vello invernale, più lungo e folto e di colore bruno-nerastro su dorso, coda, ventre e zampe, mentre il posteriore, il muso, la fronte e l'area che va dalle guance alle spalle sono di colore giallastro. Sia d'estate che d'inverno il camoscio d'Abruzzo presenta una caratteristica fascia di pelo scuro che ricopre gli occhi a mo' di mascherina e di una macchia chiara sulla gola, accompagnata da una fascia di colore bruno lungo il collo: tali ornamenti sono esclusivi di questi animali e notata da Oscar Neumann osservando un esemplare impagliato presso il museo civico di Genova. Da questa fascia deriva il nome scientifico della sottospecie.
Grazie a questi ornamenti, il camoscio d'Abruzzo è stato definito "il camoscio più bello del mondo".

It differs from other species of chamois mainly by the horns, which while having the hook-shaped feature are much longer (up to 30 cm and over, against 20 cm in average of the other species) compared to those of other chamois. The horns are perennial as in all Bovidae, which do not fall, and present in both sexes.
The Abruzzo chamois during the summer months has reddish color with the parties ventral and head that fade into pale, while during the winter, the summer suit coat to give way to winter fleece, longer and thick and brownish color blackish on the back, tail, belly and legs, while the back of the nose, the forehead and the area that goes from the cheeks to the shoulders are yellowish. Both summer and winter, the Abruzzo chamois has a characteristic dark hair band that covers the eyes mo 'mask and a clear spot on the throat, accompanied by a brown stripe along the neck: these ornaments they are exclusive of these animals and noticed by Oscar Neumann observing a stuffed specimen in the civic museum of Genoa. From this range comes the scientific name of the subspecies.
Thanks to these ornaments, the Abruzzo chamois has been called "the most beautiful chamois in the world".
